Weight Lifting Burns Fat Just Like Cardio According To New Research

Here's today's feel-good story:

A new study suggests that it's not that cut and dry when it comes to exercising and burning fat. Traditionally we think of strength training leading to gaining muscle and cardio to lose fat.

The new study shows that we can lose around 1.4% of our body fat through strength training alone which is a similar percentage to how much we might lose through cardio.

“A lot of people think that if you want to lose weight, you need to go out and run,” says Dr. Mandy Hagstrom, exercise physiologist and senior lecturer at UNSW Medicine & Health.

“But our findings show that even when strength training is done on its own, it still causes a favorable loss of body fat without having to consciously diet or go running.”
