Rescued Thai Boys and Coach Ordained as Monks to Honor Navy Diver

A Thai Navy Seal diver, Saman Gunan, died while trying to bring oxygen supplies to the 11 soccer players and their coach that were trapped in a cave. The rescued soccer team and their coach will live as monks for nine days (starting last Wednesday, July 24) to honor Gunan and the other members of the rescue team who saved their lives.

The eleven boys were ordained as novice and their coach was ordained as a monk.

Their coach, Coach Ekapol Chanthawong, spent a decade in a Buddhist monastery and kept the boys calm by teaching them how to meditate and preserve their energy.
