Visiting the Ice Castles in Dillon, Colorado is one of my favorite things to do in Summit County in the winter, so I'm pretty bummed about this.
According to OutThereColorado.com:
While tourists love the photo op made possible by frozen walls and pillars of ice, the structure becomes a point of controversy each year among locals, with some unhappy amid additional crowds and others worried about long-term damage the installation may cause in their downtown park.
Constructed each year before melting to be built again the following season, it wasn't complaints from town members that resulted in the Ice Castles being pushed out of the town next season – it's a large scale construction project set to take place in the same space.
It is unclear if Dillon pushing the Ice Castles attraction out for a year could result in the Ice Castles attraction looking elsewhere in Colorado.
