Good News at Noon: December 11, 2020

In today's good news...

  • A 45-year-old guy in New York named Jeff Gerson got the virus in March and ended up on a ventilator, but survived. And once he recovered, he spent five months tracking down all 116 healthcare workers who saved his life, just to say thank you.
  • We can't all do big things to help, but the little things add up too: A 93-year-old veteran in Ohio named John Hobson has been whittling walking sticks. . . selling them for $3 on the side of the road . . . and donating all the money to his local food bank.
  • An annual bike-a-thon called the Pan-Mass Challenge raised more than expected this year. They were hoping to bring in $41 million for cancer research, and ended up with $50 million. A large chunk of that money was already fast-tracked in May to kickstart a COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.
  • Doctors in Russia have been making house calls for people who are self-isolating. So a group of volunteers recently stepped up to serve as a free taxi service that gets them back and forth. And now because of that, they're able to see 70% more patients.
