'The Babadook' Reaches New Gay Icon Status With Pride-Themed Blu-Ray

The Babadook's queer icon status just elevated with the news that a Pride Month-themed Blu-ray release of the Australian horror film has been released, as per an announcement on Monday (June 3).

Courtesy of the Shout Factory and IFC Midnight, the 2014 cult film will see life once again with a limited-edition Blu-ray release, which is covered in Pride-themed packaging. Only 2,500 copies of the film are scheduled for release, with a percentage of all sales during the month of June going towards the Los Angeles LGBT Center. Among the bonus features on the release include interviews with the cast and crew, a behind-the-scenes featurette and theatrical trailers.

"Thanks to the unpredictable world of social media, viral videos and passionate fans, The Babadook became an unexpected and embraced LGBTQ mascot in 2017 and even carried over into last year as well," the product description reads. "This year, we fling the closet doors open even further to cement his status! We’ve created a special release with participation from our fine partners at IFC Midnight: an official limited edition and numbered Pride Month-themed slipcover packaging that will be shrink-wrapped over our existing Blu-ray release. The slipcover has a gloss finish with embossed highlights."

As you know, The Babadook caught some viral buzz when Netflix accidentally categorized it as an LGBTQ film. Since then, the creature has popped up at Pride parades and has been rumored to be dating Pennywise. Click here to purchase The Babadook [LGBTQ Pride Edition]!
