Here's Why Camila Cabello Cut The Ed Sheeran-Penned Track From Her Album

As she's mentioned time and time again, Camila Cabello absolutely adores Ed Sheeran. Still, the former Fifth Harmony singer had to cut the track the British pop star wrote for her self-titled LP and the decision was certainly a hard one.

In a new interview with the "Zach Sang Show," the 20-year-old spoke about leaving the James Brown-inspired cut on the cutting room floor. "I rewrote a lot of the lyrics and the lyrics were actually funny and the song was so great," she said of "The Boy." "He's incredible. It was great, but it sounded like it was on a different album if that makes sense. It sounded like the one that didn't fit and was made at a different time."

Asked why she selected just 10 tracks for the solo LP, the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards nominee said that she just didn't want any fillers on the set. "I had a lot of [fillers] that sounded like another version of 'In The Dark' or another version of 'All These Years,'" she explained. "I just want to choose the best one of all those things because I don't want you to have to skip them."

In our previous interview with Cabello, the star admitted that she lost her voice when she recorded "The Boy." "It's awesome. I actually just recut the vocals cause I wanted to do it in a higher key," she told iHeartRadio after her set at the 2017 Billboard Hot 100 Festival. "I was on the phone with him and he was like, 'If you don't lose your voice after this recording session, you didn't do a good job,' and I did lose my voice. I lost my voice [for], like, a week and a half after that and I still have to do ad-libs because I had to stop."
